Roberts, a former professional sportsman himself, was instrumental in forging the first relationship of its kind in South Africa between a domestic sports team and a partner from the cryptocurrency industry.

“I started this business because I knew there was a gap in the market for someone like me to introduce players from the fintech industry to sporting assets,” said Roberts.

He continued: “When I received the mandate from the Vodacom Bulls, I immediately saw the link between themselves and a crypto partner - and I knew Luno would be the perfect fit.”

Roberts boasts a rolodex of cryptocurrency exchanges and blockchain/fintech brands eager to break into the South African sports industry. His mandate from various professional sport clubs around Africa is to broker an introduction and negotiate a deal that creates an unrivalled partnership and value for all parties involved.

CEO of Vodacom Bulls, Edgar Rathbone announced the partnership with much anticipation of an ambitious road ahead.

“Luno has an intrinsic understanding of what it means to have a competitive edge. As a trusted brand in the crypto financial industry, we are thrilled that Luno has decided to partner with the Vodacom Bulls. We are a sporting brand that is continuously exploring smart ways to evolve and innovate to modernise rugby. Partnerships with global brands are exciting as they also acknowledge the loyalty of our devoted support base.”

“The Vodacom Bull is an ambitious brand, and we value Luno wanting to walk this journey with us, and we know that with their support, we will achieve our vision of being the best sporting brand in the country,” concludes Rathbone.

Speaking of the sponsorship, completed by Roberts in conjunction with SAIL, Luno’s Christo de Wit, Country Manager, said: “Luno is focused on empowering people by building a new financial system which is more suited to the digital age. Like rugby, crypto can be unpredictable and volatile at times, but it is important to zoom out, stick to your game plan and think long term.”

Following on the international success of sport entities partnering with crypto exchange partners, Roberts is already setting his sights on the next deal he hopes to get over the line.

“There are so many opportunities at the moment and every sport brand and digitally aligned entity is looking to partner with a game-changing brand from the Fintech space. It’s such an exciting space to be in right now and I’m already looking ahead to close and announce the next partnership.”
